Remontant sur sa moissonneuse, il examina les environs et se rendit compte que quatre autres de ces dômes, rangés en demi-cercle, tous identiques et tournoyant, flottaient à une trentaine de centimètres du sol.

Soudainement l'un des engins s'éleva, vite suivi par les quatre autres, et il s'élevèrent en formation serrée. A une soixantaine de mètres du sol, ils s'arrêtèrent, chacun émettant un jet vaporeux depuis des sortes de tuyères à leur base. La vapeur descendit de près de deux mètres, suivie par un souffle de vent orienté vers le bas qui aplatit le blé en dessous. Les objets se mirent alors en ligne, planèrent une minute ou deux, puis s'élevèrent rapidement vers les nuages bas et disparurent.

Par la suite Fuhr appris que le bétail dans un enclos proche avait paniqué et brisé son enclôt au moment de l'observation. Inspectant les lieux des événements, il trouva cinq cercles d'herbe aplatie et enroulée dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre. Il n'y avait aucune trace de chaleur ou de brûlure. D'autres cercles furent trouvés dans les environs plus tard dans le même mois.

Le Constable Rom Morier, de la Police Montée Canadienne, cité par le Canadian Press, déclara:

"Quelque chose était là et je ne pense pas qu'il s'agissait d'une farce. Il n'y a aucun indice que quelque chose ait été transporté sur les lieux et M. Fuhr semblait authentiquement effrayé."

Edward Fuhr, a farmer, while working in his field in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, observes a silver flying saucer UFO that had landed and four others flying in the vicinity.

A number of jeux de gamins are left in the field below where the saucers were seen.

Some residents of Langenburg a farming community about 70 kilometers southeast of Yorkton, believe they can create a tourist attraction based on an eerie event that occurred in a farmer�s field near the town in 1974.

On Sept. 1 1974, the skies were grey and threatening, but Edwin Fuhr was on his swather in a field of rapeseed (now called canola).

Moving up a small incline, he glanced up to make sure he would skirt a grassy, dried out slough just ahead when he spied something made of metal in the grass.

His first thought was that someone was playing a joke on him or had dumped junk in the old slough.

As the swather moved up the incline, the slough came into full view. The metallic �something� was one of five machines rotating rapidly and hovering just above the grass.

Fuhr, startled, stopped his swather, climbed down and took a few steps toward the hovering machines. Then, overcome with fear, he stopped and began slowly to ease back to his idling swather.

The machines continued to hover and spin, then slowly lifted. About 100 feet above ground, they manoeuvred into an echelon formation and rose at a much greater speed. Each vented a brief puff of smoke and in seconds. Disappeared over the horizon.

At the controls of his swather, Fuhr was almost paralyzed with fright and barely able to put the machine into gear. At lunch, he was unable to eat.

When he inspected the site where the strange visitors had been, he saw five circular depressions.

Most of the tall grass was pressed down, and, in places, was twisted as it would be by a spinning object. The circles were exactly 11 feet (3.3 meters) in diameter and there was unflattened grass in the centre.

The shaken farmer reported the incident to the RCMP. In a few days, a newspaper story brought hordes of curiosity seekers to the farm, all expecting to see the landing site. Fuhr could not allow that because the estimated 3,000 people who arrived would have pulverized his crop.

Fuhr said the mystery machines were made of what looked like stainless steel, but had a �brushed� finish. Each was about five feet (1.5 metres) high at the peak of its dome-like structure. There were no windows or portholes, no antennae or other projecting parts except something resembling a short exhaust pipe, the source of the vapour the objects emitted as they rose through the overcast.

The Centre for UFO Studies in Illinois sent a specialist to the farm and he found no reason to dispute Fuhr�s report.

Cpl. Ron Morier of the RCMP concluded that the five circles were caused by �something exerting what had to be heavy exhaust or air pressure. Whatever was in there came out of the air and departed the same way, as far as I could tell.�

Edwin Fuhr still lives in Langenburg where he�s regarded as a dependable, quiet spoken citizen not given to inventing tall tales. As one businessman said at the time of the incident, �If that�s what Edwin says he saw, that�s what Edwin saw.�

Today, portions of the rings made by the strange machines are still visible on his land.

About three years ago, there was a report of two UFO�s that hovered briefly over Langenburg.

In another incident, four people, who were not identified, said they saw �a silver, saucer-shaped object� hovering above a highway in the Prince Albert area.

The sighting was in 1955 and was not reported until 1973 because those involved feared being ridiculed.

It�s likely that numerous other events have gone unreported for the same reason.

   Farmer Edwin Fuhr, 36, was harvesting his rape crop at about 11:00 a.m., when he noticed a metallic-appearing dome-shaped object about 50 feet away in a grassy area. Stopping to investigate, he left his swather and walked to within 15 feet of the object. Noting that the object was spinning and swirling the grass beneath it, he became frightened and backed away. Climbing back on the swather, he looked around and saw four more domes arranged in a rough semi-circle, all identical and all spinning, hovering about a foot above the ground.

   Suddenly one object took off, quickly followed by the other four, ascending in a step formation. At about 200 feet they stopped, each emitting a puff of gray vapour from exhaust-like extensions at the base. The vapour extended about six feet, followed by a downward gust of wind which flattened the rape in the immediate area. The objects then formed a straight line, hovered for a minute or two, then abruptly ascended into the low cloud cover and disappeared.

   Later Fuhr learned that cattle in a nearby field had bellowed and broken through a fence about the time of the sighting. Going to inspect the landing area, he found five rings of depressed grass swirled in a clockwise fashion. There was no evidence of heat or burning. Some additional circles were found in the area later that month.

   Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable Ron Morier, quoted by Canadian Press, said: "Something was there and I doubt it was a hoax. There's no indication anything had been wheeled in or out and Mr. Fuhr seemed genuinely scared."

UFO: Sightings, Landings and Abductions

   By far the most publicized UFO landing in recent years occurred during the 1974 Labour Day weekend on a rapeseed farm outside Langenburg, Saskatchewan, close to the Manitoba border. As a calling card, the five dome-shaped UFOs that landed on Edwin Fuhr's farm left five of the most distinctive nest-like depressions ever seen. The case also demonstrates the interest UFOs appear to have in studying our cultivation efforts.

   The scene unfolds on Sunday morning, September 1, 1974. At about 10:45 AM Edwin Fuhr was out swathing the rape when suddenly he came upon a dome-shaped object fifty feet in front of him. Thinking it was a joke perpetrated by his neighbour, Fuhr jumped off his tractor and walked within fifteen feet of the object. His curiosity quickly turned to shock when he realized that the thing before him, now visibly revolving, was hovering about a foot above the ground.

   Bewildered by the sight, he slowly backed away, making sure not to turn his back to the craft. As he mounted his swather, he became even more alarmed; there were four more identical objects nearby, all visibly revolving in unison, in a clockwise direction!

   In an interview with UFO researcher Ted Phillips, Edwin Fuhr described what had happened:

   They were all revolving, all four of them. I sat there like I was frozen, I couldn't move nothing....I sat there for, it could have been fifteen or twenty minutes, I don't know. From one of them, something was probing around the grass....It was like, oh, I would say, the size of a fifty-cent piece, it looked like a probe, and the grass was all twisted and you could see marks like something had jumped here and there, all over. Then, they all went up, straight up, to I would say about two hundred feet and they stopped at that distance. When they hit the two hundred foot mark, they stopped spinning and a vapour floated out, an exhaust. The exhaust was only about six feet long, like a vapour, it was two ports at the bottom of it.

   You could see they were about twelve-inch diameter ports and they were all like that. They were in a step-like formation, the lower was the last to go up... And after that, I would say only a second, there was a downward wind, a pressure that flattened the rape that was standing and I thought, "Oh, here goes my crop." It just took seconds to get to that height (two hundred feet) and then they were just standing and after that, into the clouds and they were gone.

   Fuhr went on to describe the craft in detail:

       The color of the machine was like a brushed stainless steel. It was rough and you could see while it was revolving that it was sort of grooved all around; you could see kind of grooves, they were darker grey....a dark grey...like it had been hot at one time, like steel that gets hot and cools off.�

   Recovering from shock, Fuhr inspected the area where the craft had landed. There were five perfectly round rings of flattened rapeseed which had been swirled in a clockwise direction. After hearing of the incident, Fuhr's brother-in-law contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They arrived the following morning and in a report, the investigating officer, Constable Ron Morier stated:

       I went to the scene...where we spoke with Edwin Fuhr and examined the circular patterns left by the saucers. There were five distinct circles, caused by something exerting what had to be heavy air or exhaust pressure over high grass.

   In an interview with Ted Phillips, Constable Morier stated:

       There is no way that this is a hoax...I think that there is no way that anything was wheeled in and out of that field because there had to be some trace...whatever was in there, it came out of the air and departed the same way, as far as I could tell.

UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS

1.      Mr. ZORN telephoned this Office wandering whether or not
our Office had received any calls reporting sightings of unidenti-
fied flying objects. I advised Mr. ZORN that no such reports had
been received.  Mr. ZORN then reported that he had just spoken to
his brother-in-law Edwin FUHR (B: 28 APR 38) on the telephone and
he related to him how around 10:30 A.M. today he came upon five
(5) 'saucer shaped' objects while swathing rape at the above lo-
cation.  He apparently froze with fear and watched the 'Saucers'
for approx. 15 min. as they hovered a foot off the ground.
Finally he got off the Tractor and walked towards the 'Saucers'
coming to within 20 ft. of them before they propelled straight up
disappearing into the clouds.  Mr. ZORN of course was skeptical as
was I of the above story, however he advised that his brother-in-
law is a responsible person and not prone to making up stories.
Mr. ZORN also spoke to his father-in-law who returned to the scene
of the sittings, and he confirmed that there were five definite
circular patterns left in the swamp grass.

2.     As it was dark at this time there was no point in partollin,
to the scene.  Arrangements were made to accompany Mr. ZORN to the
scene first thing tomorrow morning.

3.     2 SEP, I went to the scene with Mr. ZORN where we spoke
with Edwin FUHR and examined the circular patterns left by the
'Saucers".  There were five different distinct circles, caused by
something exerting what had to be heavy air or exhaust pressure
over the high grass.  The grass was flattened in a clockwise circle
with the flattened portion being approx. 18 in. The total diameter
of two of the circles was 12 ft., with the other three being approx.
10 � ft. in diameter.  The grass in the centre portion of the ring
was standing, and appeared untouched.   Photographs were taken of the
rings. FUHR stated that he was so involved with swathing in the
rape, which was a good 3� ft. tall, that he didn't notice one of the
'Saucers' located in the sunken dried slough in the field until he
was about 50 ft. away from them.  He described the 'Saucers' as
being about 4 or 5 ft. in height.  The body was a highly polished
HIGHLY POLISHED... steel, with the bottom lip being a duller steel
shade.  He didn't notice any windows on the 'Saucers' because they
were revolving at too great a speed.  He didn't hear any noise co-
ming from the  machine over the noise of his Tractor. FUHR stated
that as the 'Saucers' gained altitude he noticed exhaust come from
underneath them.  Other than the five rings, there was no other
physical evidence in the area.

4.     The witness FUHR has been known by a member of this Detach-
ment for a period of four years., and during this time he has not been
known to materialize any such stories.  He is a responsible person,
and his information is considered reliable.

Mysterious UFO Formations
Found in Canada, Sept 1974

   An unusual five-ship UFO-formation was sighted in Langenburg, Canada, by Edwin Fuhr. Canadian Royal Mounted Police are convinced, on the basis of their preliminary investigation, that some objects did land on Fuhr's farm.

   "I went out about 9 a.m., " reported Edwin Fuhr of Langenburg, Saskatchewan, Canada. "It was very cold and I have on my coveralls with the hood of my parka over my head. Ice crystals were falling, and it was raining at the time.

   "I was going very slowly when I noticed the object in front of me. At first I thought it was a goose blind for hunters.

   "I jumped out of the swather (combine) and I walked up to within 15 feet of it. I noticed the object was rotating, spinning (clockwise) and the grass around it was moving.

   "I stopped right there and viewed it for maybe two minutes. I don't know exactly how long I was standing there and instinct told me not to go any closer so I backed out all the way back to the swather, walked around it and got in on the left-hand side.

   "As I sat down in the seat, four more appeared on the opposite side of me and I immediately froze. I couldn't move at all and they sat there about 15 minutes, rotating, all five of them."

   Fuhr added, "Then they went straight up, all even, in a step formation. They were up about 200 feet when a dark gray vapour appeared from the bottom two exhaust ports and lasted a few seconds. Then they were gone."

   Fuhr returned to his farmhouse, about 140 yards away. Realizing something was wrong, his wife asked him why he was so upset. Fuhr related the frightening experience. Later in the afternoon, his brother and sister-in-law came over and the incident was again brought up.

   When his brother returned to town, he called the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and asked if they had received any reports of anything unusual.

   At first, Constable Ron Morier said he was skeptical of the incident but agreed to investigate the following morning.

   However, after arriving at the site, Morier stated, "Once I saw the rings, and how genuinely scared Mr. Fuhr was, it was most definite something had landed. Nothing could have been brought into that area. There were no tracks. It came out of the sky and went back to the sky.

   "Mr. Fuhr is very sincere and a responsible member of the community that members of the force have known for the past four years."

   A complete report of the incident was forwarded to the National Security Council of Ottawa. Fuhr further described the details of his sightings to officials.

   "It was about 5-feet high and 11-feet in diameter. It was stainless steel, saucer-shaped, domed, dark on the bottom like it had been hot, very hot. There were no markings on the craft.

   After the five objects disappeared Mr. Fuhr said he "got off the swather to see if the spots were warm or hot. They were cool, all five of them. I do not know if they were sitting there all night or not."

   While no occupants were observed, Fuhr added. "It looked like something got out, as the grass was trampled down near one of the rings."

   Investigation of the rings by Constable Morier resulted in the following preliminary findings:

   Five rings were arranged in a horseshoe design, with three of the rings only about 5 feet apart. Two additional rings on each side were further back.

   The grass was approximately 18 inches high, with the strange tramping down appearing to come from one of the rings in the center cluster.

   While investigating, Morier smelled the grass in the rings and noticed no door of any kind.

   Another ring was found in the area the following Tuesday morning and many residents reported strange lights in the sky.

'They're out there:' Farmer remembers his close encounter

It was 34 years ago this month when Edwin Fuhr encountered five dome-shaped objects hovering about a half-metre above his canola field.

The passage of time has done nothing to quell the 70-year-old Langenburg man's conviction that we are not alone in the universe. In fact, Fuhr believes his visitors are still keeping watch -- from a distance.

"They're out there, there's no question," he said in an interview.

About five or six years ago, in the northeast part of the sky, four or five lights did something strange.

"They followed you," Fuhr said, saying they looked like stars but "a star doesn't move or change colours."

In 1988, he moved from the farm, about 10 kilometres north of Langenburg, into town. The urban lights tend to wash out the night sky, but every so often in the northeast, the lights show up and follow along, Fuhr said.

"I'm pretty sure they're the same ones (that were in the field in 1974). That's the direction they took off in '74," he said.

Many UFO sightings on the Prairies occur in fall, when farmers are harvesting before the frost hits. That's when reports of crop circles tend to . . . er, crop up.

Going to inspect the landing area the day following his encounter, Fuhr found five rings of depressed canola swirled in a clockwise direction. More circles were found in the area later that month, according to media and police reports from the time.

Over the next while, the site was visited by the RCMP, scientists, UFO researchers from across North America and even the FBI. Sniffer dogs used by the police refused to enter the circles, according to Fuhr.

"Something was there and I doubt it was a hoax. There's no indication anything had been wheeled in or out and Mr. Fuhr seemed genuinely scared," RCMP Const. Ron Morier was quoted in a StarPhoenix story of Sept. 19, 1974.

On Sept. 27, 1974, another newspaper article referred to a Martensville police constable and his wife witnessing a UFO over Saskatoon. It hung above the Nutana neighbourhood briefly before taking off. The officer, Albert Goddue, described it as being dome-shaped.

"No one will ever convince me it was any type of conventional aircraft. It was like nothing I have ever seen in the sky before," Goddue was quoted as saying.

Not everyone remains a believer after a close encounter. On Sept. 19, 1963, an 11-year-old boy and three friends were playing in a Saskatoon schoolyard when they saw a bright oval object hover and drop something. They claim a figure stood up three metres tall, made a moaning sound, held out his hands, and floated towards them.

The 11-year-old told investigators the figure was a man dressed in clothes "like a monk's" which were "white like a crayon."

The accounts are recorded in two books, Passport to Magonia: on UFOs, folklore, and parallel worlds, by Jacques Vallee, and The Complete Guide to Mysterious Beings, by John Keel.

The children ran off and one girl became so hysterical that she had to be hospitalized.

"Sometimes I could see right through him," the 11-year-old said.

Now 56, he refuses to believe it ever happened.

"It was just overzealous kids with good imaginations," he said in an interview Friday, the 45th anniversary of the event. "I don't want to discuss it."

The man said he went through a "tough time" in school after the supposed sighting was made public. Since then, he has moved from Saskatoon and no longer associates with the other three children who were with him that day. He has been married 35 years and neither his wife nor any of his immediate family members know anything of the incident, he said, asking his name be kept out of the newspaper.

"It's in the past and that's where it should stay," he said. "I don't need the headache."

Fuhr was 36 when he saw the saucers around 10 a.m. Initially, he noticed one metallic object in a depression on the land. He walked to within 15 feet of the object.

"I saw the grass was moving and I looked up and saw this thing spinning at one hell of a speed," he said on Thursday.

There was no sound, no smell, no windows to peer into, said Fuhr, whose joints ached as he walked backwards to the swather, keeping his eye on the saucer.

Then he noticed four more off to the side, arranged in a "half-moon" formation. He estimates the two largest ones were 30 feet in diameter with the rest slightly smaller. They hovered about 15 minutes before taking off, one-by-one, with a gust of vapour.

A few weeks after the incident, a scientist from the National Research Council (NRC) in Ottawa suggested the rings were caused by mushrooms. Allen McNamara, head of the NRC's upper atmosphere research section, also theorized the glow from the saucers may have been caused by the fungi.

The crop circles were exactly the same as "fairy rings" produced by underground mushroom filaments, he was quoted as saying. When asked by reporters about the canola pressed in a circular motion, McNamara guessed it was caused by wind.

Fuhr has never been provided an explanation that would convince him he was imagining things.

"Imagination doesn't leave marks in the ground, does it?" he said, noting the landing site was tested as recently as four years ago and is still emitting radioactive waves.

For the first year, nothing would grow where the circles were and "the ground was hard, like cement."

Though he no longer works the land, it remains in the family, farmed by a nephew. Fuhr has never asked him whether he's encountered anything strange.

En français,ce sont des traces d'atterrissage et pas des "dessins" plus ou moins compliqués comme aiment à en faire les retraités anglais.Souvent l'anglais est plus "général" et englobant que le français(du moins l'anglais courant).
Donc les "crop-circle" n'ont rien à voir avec cette affaire de cinq(!) ovnis atterrissants et laissants 5 traces réelles dans un champ du Saskatchewan au Canada.

C'est une superbe affaire, pour la distinction crop circle et traces atterrissage je suis plus prudent. A mon avis il existe un lien, les traces mystérieuses dans les champs (atterrissages de soucoupes comme ici) ont donné des idées à des farceurs qui ont créé la mode des crop circle par la suite. Voici ce que j'avais mis dans le dossier crop ce n'est pas la panacée mais ça permet de se poser des questions:

Simples cercles dans leurs premières apparitions, les crop circles sont devenus au fil des années de superbes dessins, figurant parfois des visages à peu près humains ou des signes aux allures cabalistiques. Pourquoi cette complexification des figures? Tout simplement parce qu'au début, il ne s'agissait pas de figures ou de quelconques messages. En effet il s'agissait de simples cercles dans les champs. Vous vous demandez l'origine de ces cercles? Eh bien il est probable qu'au départ les premiers crops circles n'étaient que des "nids de soucoupes" comme on dit en ufologie ( par exemple ceux des années 65 en Australie).

Il suffit pour cela qu'un engin se pose dans un champ comme à Valensole en France en 1965 pour laisser une trace dans ce champ. Par la suite les gens ont trouvé ces cercles mystérieux est l'information s'est diffusée dans la population. Des petits malins ont alors décidé de réaliser des figures dans les champs par pure imitation, les crop circles sont nés. Néanmoins des figures très complexes ne peuvent absolument pas être attribuées à ce genre de plaisanteries, il existe de vrais crop circles c'est à dire de nature non conventionnelle. Les vrais crop circles apparaissent souvent à proximité de lieux mythiques, d'alignement de menhirs et dolmens comme stonehenge. Les mégalithes sont donc la clé de l'énigme en tous cas une chose est sûr il y a un lien trés fort entre crop circles et ces alignements mystérieux.
